VIPs (very important pooches) open new charity shop to help raise pounds for hounds

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, officially opened the doors of its latest charity shop on Friday 21st July with the help of Nesse the homeless hound from the nearest rehoming centre in West Sussex.

Dogs Trust’s charity shop on the High Street offers a wide range of second hand goods from children clothes to household items, books and DVDs. Savvy shoppers and their canine counterparts will be able to browse the store together, with all money raised going towards Dogs Trust’s work across the country.

Dogs Trust Retail Area Manager, Sally Harrild, said: “We’re really excited to be setting up shop here in Petersfield. It’s a great place with a strong community spirit. We have already received so many generous donations but would be grateful for any extra items that can be spared. We’re stocking everything and anything from books and clothes to ornaments and household items so come on down and ‘wag’ yourself a bargain.”

Nesse from Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre came along to the opening. The three-year-old loveable Lurcher is searching for her special someone. Fun and full of life, Nesse’s looking for an active home with experienced dog owners who will continue her positive reward-based training.

Damian Hinds MP was also in attendance and enjoyed meeting both the two-legged and four-legged guests at the opening.

Damian Hinds MP said: “I am thrilled to be at the opening of Dogs Trust’s new Petersfield charity shop. The store is fantastic and all the money goes to a cause that is close to my heart. I hope the local public come along and pick up a bargain – there’s so much on offer! It was a pleasure to meet staff and Nesse from Dogs Trust Shoreham today – perhaps shoppers will also be tempted to venture to the Shoreham rehoming centre and adopt a four-legged friend!”

Holloway Iliffe & Mitchell Director, Stuart Mitchell, who oversaw the renovation of the store said: “We were thrilled to be able to help Dog’s Trust secure a new shop in Petersfield. Demand for retail accommodation in the town continues to grow and the high street is a popular location.”

The new Dogs Trust charity shop is situated at 31, High Street, Petersfield, GU32 3JR. The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 9.00am to 5.00pm and the team can be reached on 01730 262971.

The shop is looking for donations of all shapes and sizes, particularly clothing and accessories. All those wanting to donate items are asked to drop them off at any time during opening hours.
